Mississippi cardiologist helped wounded at marathon blast

Jackson cardiologist Dr. Rick Guynes reported for duty at 7:45 Monday morning, primed for a full day of treating Boston Marathon runners for common race maladies: muscle cramps, dehydration, heart issues.

He ran in 2005, but this was his first year on the race’s 1,000-person medical team. In the football field-sized medical tent just to the right of the finish line, Guynes was in charge of about a dozen medical professionals staffing Section 15, with eight to 10 cots.
